Roller furling swivel development

These are some of the development models I used to refine the swivel for the roller furling. After sketching out several ideas that I thought I could build using a cheap bandsaw and drill press, I started with posterboard mock-ups. As I ruled out some construction processes as difficult to fabricate in aluminum, I then made accurate drawings using Adobe Illustrator. Gluing the laser prints to aluminum plate, I started making dust by cutting and drilling to the patterns. The final design was cut from angle stock to avoid having to make any sharp bends that would weaked aluminum. I ruined a few holesaws, but the result was a working model that has made sailing this O'Day very easy. Back
